Young people challenge NSW politicians on homelessness
A group of young people have spoken to the public and politicians about tackling youth homelessness in New South Wales, after gathering at a forum held in Redfern today. Thirty nine percent of all homeless people in New South Wales are under 25 years of age – a reality which the organisation Y-Foundations finds disturbing. Their hope is to give young people a voice and put homelessness high on the agenda, especially during the upcoming state election. Seventeen year old Sharni Jade Bennett spoke to the forum about her experiences living rough, after leaving home years ago. Sharni’s plea is that homelessness is approached in a more compassionate way.
