Asaad Fadhil Alshekhly arrived in Australia in 2014 after a treacherous four-year journey from Iraq.
The young refugee’s education was cut short by war but he is completing his HSC as a mature aged student, committed to one day fulfilling his dreams of becoming an engineer.
Asaad has been recognised at this year’s Western Sydney Refugee Youth Awards for academic achievement and leadership, and joined us in studio with his teacher Maria Pascalis to talk about his new life in Australia.
