Wylie case spurs debate on dementia and euthanasia

Caren Jennings, convicted in June of accessory to manslaughter of her terminally ill life-long friend Graham Wylie, says the grueling investigation and court process was contributory to her own suicide. That’s according to Dr Phillip Nichki who released the contents of a suicide note this morning. The court ruled that Wylie’s dementia from Alzheimer’s disease reduced his capacity to consent to the suicide. A pro euthanasia conference in Sydney convened today to discuss concerns arising from the case about dementia and capacity to make end of life decisions.
