This week is World Disarmament Week which coincides with the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. However the relevence of the UN is increasingly being brought into question on this issue. Dr Bill Williams is the Vice president of the Medical Association for the Prevention of War. Dr. Williams said that in light of this week, Australian’s should not only consider our role in the war in Iraq, but that, in global terms, the most pressing issue still remains nuclear weapons abolition. Although Australia doesn’t own any nukes, we’re very closely aligned to the US, who have around 10,000.
