While World AIDS Day in 2011 reminds the world of the scale of the ongoing epidemic, new research suggests the news is not all doom and gloom.

As the Sydney Opera House lit up red last night to mark the day, National Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS (NAPWAN) President Robert Mitchell remarked: “Here’s to the day when we don’t need a World AIDS Day”.According to advocacy organisations including Mitchell’s own, the implementation of new studies and medical approaches might mean that day is not too far away.
