Nanotechnology has been hailed as the next big thing by some scientists. But the growing use of nanomaterials in workplace environments has raised alarms in trade union organisations.
The Australian Workers Union’s Paul Howes claims the growing use of nanotechnology may have the potential for an “asbestos-style issue in the future.’ The lack of certainty and research in the area has led to calls for more regulation and futher research. Susan Cheong spoke to Renata Musolino, Occupational Health and Safety Information Officer at the Victorian Trades Hall Council.
