Today, a cohort of prisoner women in Townsville graduated from a program called ‘Sisters for Change’ supported by the Australian Red Cross. The program offers these women the opportunity to upgrade their skills and become volunteers inside the prison to help out their fellow inmates.

The program wishes to expand in more prisons across Australia, because thanks to the program at the Townsville Women’s Correctional Centre, violence in the prison has decreased by 15%, the inmates self-confidence has improved, and half of the participants feel more positive about the future.
