Women pay the price of work flexibility
International Women’s day usually highlights inequality of some kind – yesterday a new report from the International Trade Union Confederation revealed that worldwide, women are paid 18% on average less than their male counterparts at work. The report ‘Frozen in Time’ also showed that the gap has remained unchanged for the past ten years
One of the reasons in Australia is the preference of many women for contract and casual work. An enquiry icurrently underway has found many people live and work in a state of insecurity and fear. The enquiry plans to look at solutions some other countries have put in place, giving basic rights after as little as three months casual work.
