With attacks on the rise, should we pull out of Afghanistan?
Some countries in the International Security Assistance Force have already begun drawing down troops in Afghanistan. However, a growing number of experts and commentators are sounding the alarm over what they say is worsening violence in the country. Enemy initiated attacks and IED attacks are back to pre-surge levels, and so-called Green-on-Blue attacks are steadily increasing. Experts say that one in five combat deaths can be attributed to insider attacks.
The total number of US soldiers killed in Afghanistan recently passed two thousand. Thirty-nine Australian soldiers have also been killed in Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force. But opinion is split on why the attacks are increasing, and whether Australia should pull out early.
