New Zealand wind energy company Meridian announced this week that it would proceed with the Wattle Point Wind Farm on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, even though the State government has not yet given approval. Although there has been consultation and agreement with the local Narunga community, the local Aboriginal Heritage group says they were not consulted. Spokesperson Quentin Agius says the community is to be given only 180 thousand dollars in compensation even though the 50 turbine farm will affect important dreaming sites. The SA Minister for Aboriginal Affairs will walk the land with Quentin and other elders this week.
