Will the Asian century mean more international students?
This Sunday Prime Minister Julia Gillard released the Australia in the Asian Century White Paper. The White Paper calls for Australia to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the region’s rising middle class. Some international students claim they face a number of challenges, such as a shortage of accommodation, dishonest landlords, and a lack of travel concessions in some states.
The New South Wales government dealt with a major gripe of international students yesterday, when it announced that they will have access to concession prices for public transport beginning next year. But are moves like this enough to encourage more students from the region?
