Codeine won’t be sold over the counter as of this February, an action hoping to curb drug abuse and deaths.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia believes it won’t benefit Australia, and even stand in the face of monitoring efforts to stop codeine abuse. The RACGP, however, support the move, but also call for people to see their GP for chronic issues.

Rural Australia may bear the brunt of the change, with little else than their GP to stop chronic issues.
