If you went past the office of South Australian Premier Mike Rann today you would have met with a colourful scene. Members of The Wilderness Society, dressed up in animal suits and making lots of noise, were trying to present the Premier with a letter. They’re demanding he act to preserve a million hectares of Yellabina, the world’s largest stretch of Mallee Wilderness, which is in Outback South Australia. The Wilderness Society’s Damien Hickmantold told The Wire about their goals for Yellabina. Meanwhile in Brisbane, environmentalists were celebrating the passing of legislation to ban land clearing in Queensland. Jay Lameyspoke to Thee Wilderness Society’s land clearing representative Louise Matthiesson, who was celebrating on the steps of Parliament House.
