Wikileaks unlikely to lead to press restriction
The Australian Attorney general Robert McClelland has weighed into the latest Wikileaks scandal, suggesting that he may have to ask media organisations to refrain from publishing some of the Wikileaks material. Secret cables leaked by Assange have embarrassed the US State Department and Interpol has released a global arrest warrant for him. He has boasted to a UK magazine that he has plenty more secrets to tell, including the dirt on banks and pharmaceutical companies. Mike Dobbie from the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance says Wikileaks now has journalist credibility because of its links to 5 major media organisations which ensure the leaks can’t cause real damage.
