Today The NSW Premier, Morris Iemma, remains defiant over his state’s multi million investment in the tobacco industry, despite heavy criticism from large sections of the community. This controversial revelation stands in contrast to the government’s forceful anti smoking campaign. Critics argue that it represents a conflict of interest to financially benefit from an industry on the one hand, and object its practice on the other. The Wire’s Hagar Cohen spoke to NSW Greens’ upper house member, Sylvia Hale, and Stafford Sanders Communication officer at ASH – a non for profit organization dedicated to reduce illnesses caused by tobacco products.
