Where the bloody hell are we?
Its just been announced that Queensland police officer Sergeant Chris Hurley has been charged with manslaughter and assault, in relation to the death of Palm Island man Mulrunji Doomadgee, who died in custody in 2004. While the indigenous community has welcomed the move many remain concerned about the length of time and pressure that was required to bring the case to light. So we decided to take a look at where race relations stand in this country today and find out what Indigenous Australians – and those working to improve their rights – feel needs to happen to improve the lot of the first Australians, starting with Chris Graham, the editor of the National Indigenous Times.
