Skyscraper safety after 9/11
It’s been 20 years since the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre towers in New York and yet even now there are still people suffering from the aftereffects. To ensure that similar tragedies can at least be mitigated, engineers have been hard at work improving on the safety of both travel and building engineering worldwide.
The first step to accomplishing this is looking into the infrastructure of the Twin Towers which came with its own mandatory safety requirements in 1965 but the damage caused during the attacks left many people above the impact zone unable to evacuate. Now in 2021, valuable lessons are being learnt so that the next time a building needs to be evacuated, it can be done quickly and efficiently.
