Today, the streets of Dili are relatively calm, following the jubilation that met yesterday’s resignation of scandal-dogged Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri. East Timor’s Prosecutor-General has reportedly stated that Mr Alkatiri will be “summonsed to appear in the prosecutor’s office for interrogation” on Friday to answer allegations that he helped to arm a hit squad, tasked with taking out his political opponents. However, in Dili there remains a level of scepticism and uncertainty about whether justice will be brought to bear against the former prime minister.
