West Papuan independence activists are organising a mass boycott of this Wednesday’s Indonesian presidential election amid growing fears of violence. Large rallies rocked the province during parliamentary elections in April. But the Indonesian military’s brutal crackdown of those protests has forced activists to change their tactics this time round. They’re are also urging Australia to place more pressure on whoever wins the election to end human rights abuses in West Papua.
