The South Australian government has been desperate to save it’s plan of intervening in the self-governed Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankatajara lands. Problems in the AP lands came to public attention when elders called for a Coronial Inquest into the petrol sniffing deaths of four young people – and the attempted suicides of eight others. The Administrator originally appointed by the government, former Assistance Police Commissioner Jim Litster, has resigned before he began, saying he didn’t have the time available that was needed. Former Senator and member of the ATSIC Review Panel Bob Collins has agreed to go to the AP lands, but says he told the Premier, he will only go on condition that he will not be the Administrator.
