Australia is set to be promoted at this week’s NATO summit in Wales. We will be officially named an “Enhanced Partner”, which will mean permanent access to NATO’s governing councils and planning sessions. It follows significant Australian involvement in Afghanistan, and more recently in Iraq. But what exactly does NATO do in the modern world, and what difference will this make for Australia?
