While Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull spent today talking about how the focus of the federal budget will be on creating jobs, a conference was held in Melbourne called “Solving Our Employment Crisis”. Those in attendance are concerned there are not enough jobs for job seekers, who are left feeling demoralised by an increasingly punitive and dysfunctional employment services industry. The Wire spoke to the president of the Australian Unemployed Workers’ Union, Owen Bennett, who has launched a guide for unemployed workers designed to help them navigate the job agency network and stand up for their rights.
