In Canberra’s quiet suburban streets, its unsnual to hear anything let alone the sound of singing and laughing men. About 30 West Papuans stood in protest in icy winds outside the Indonesian Embassy’s closed gates last Friday. They were there to draw the world’s attention to the plight of their two countrymen who are on trial in West Papua for flying their national flag. But their protest appeared to fall on deaf ears. The Indonesian Embassy gave no reponse to the protesters. Apart from the Federal Police, there was also little public presence at the demonstration.
