Two planeloads of asylum seekers arrived at the small township of Leonora, 235km north of Kalgoorlie, earlier this week, allowing over 80 asylum seekers from Christmas Island to relocate to the remote community. 21 Families from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Iran will make Leonora their home for the next couple of months, and the local Aboriginal community wants to welcome them with a Welcome to Country Ceremony. Kado Muir, Indigenous Community Leader from Leonora in Western Australia spoke to Faith Valencia about the impact of the Asylum Seekers arrival on the community.
