This week in Brisbane crop scientists from around the globe have gathered to explore new directions for meeting the challenges of sustaining and improving food levels for an increasing global population. One of the major issues being addressed at the 4th International Crop Science Congress is water consumption and methods to not only conserve water but also to provide clean water to the 1.2 billion people today who currently don’t have access to it. Professor Frank Rijsberman, Director General of the International Water Management Institute, spoke to Bill Birtles about how dietary differences affect water consumption and about the methods that could be used to address current water crises.
