Inquest findings reveal Kimberley youth suicide crisis

‘Profoundly tragic.’

That the phrase used by West Australian Coroner Ros Fogliani to describe the Indigenous youth suicide crisis in the Kimberley.

The deaths of 13 young Indigenous people in the region between 2012 and 2016 sparked one of the largest inquests in Western Australia’s history; and now the findings are in.

Alcohol abuse, poor physical health and social, economic and cultural factors all played a part, but it is those living in poverty who are most at risk according to suicide prevention advocate, Gerry Georgatos.
