Warwick Thornton finds solace in immersive new documentary ‘The Beach’
Indigenous Australian filmmaker, cinematographer and screen writer Warwick Thornton has captured worldwide attention with his films ‘Samson & Delilah’ and ‘Sweet Country’, but his latest project, a 6-part documentary series is a whole different ball game.
A raw documentation of himself, whilst spending a month in a tin shack on the Dampier Peninsula in remote north-western WA, Thornton experiences a new-found sobriety and sense of self, upon returning to country.
Patti Burton spoke with Thornton about what he learnt from his time in the wilderness, how he lived off the land and self-isolating before the coronavirus pandemic.
‘The Beach’ will air exclusively across NITV, SBS and SBS On Demand on Friday, May 29 at 7.30pm.
