A new bill introduced by the WA Government could see protestors jailed for up to 12 months or fined $12,000. The bill targets people using or intending to use thumb or arm locks to attach themselves to objects. The Criminal Code Prevention of Lawful Activity Bill would make it illegal to create a ‘physical barrier’ to someone to going about their business. Civil libertarians and human rights activists are up in arms and the State Opposition have vowed to repeal the law if they come into office.
