WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced priorities for his government to achieve. One is to reduce Aboriginal adults by 23% and children recidivism by 50% over a four year period.
There is only one detention centre for children in the whole of WA, and WA Government legislation on release into the custody of a “responsible adult” is one reason why incarceration rates are so high, but why don’t they have a closer look at the mandatory detention legislations that cause the high incarceration rates?
