WA government’s heritage move confounds critics

A Western Australian government advisory committee has deregistered an Aboriginal heritage site and reversed its previous opposition to a proposed freeway, which will overlap the site. The ‘Aboriginal Cultural Materials Committee’ removed the site from the Aboriginal heritage register because an archaeological survey conducted by the Department of Aboriginal Affairs found no evidence of Aboriginal cultural material.
