Voices of Hope is an annual youth arts festival, sponsored by Amnesty International, which fuses creative talent and discussion of social issues. This year, thousands of high school students around the nation created art works, wrote poems and stories, performed play, and made movies exploring the theme of violence against women. The competition culminated in a one day festival, showcasing the best of the best in each state, and it also featured workshops on the theme of preventing violence against women. Paula Hanasz went along to this year’s Voices of Hope youth arts festival and spoke to the performance judge, Merlin Luck, who talked about the issues in relation to the wider community. She also spoke a bunch of students from St Joseph’s school in East Gosford who were this year’s national winners.
