Protecting old growth forests is still a dangerous business. Last week on The Wire, we brought you a story about anti-logging activists who were attacked by contractors working for Gunns Lmited. The protestors set up a road blockade to prevent loggers from cutting down trees in Tasmania’s Upper Florentine Valley. They’re part of a group “Still Wild, Still Threatened,”and they plan to stage the blockades again at the end of November. But the Forest Industry of Tasmania has warned the protesters that if they continue to protest it may result in more violence. Premier David Bartlett has said that the violence is “understandable.”
