Ahead of tomorrow’s COAG meeting with federal Minister for Energy, Josh Frydenberg, Victorian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio has today indicated that the Daniel Andrews Labor-led government won’t compromise on their renewable energy targets and schemes.

They insist that the Turnbull Government’s National Energy Guarantee (NEG) framework cannot disturb state and territorial-sanctioned policies which already predetermine emissions reduction targets.

Minister D’Ambrosio also characterised the proposed 26% cut based on 2005 levels as inadequate and that it doesn’t reference other participants in the national electricity market.

This comes as Green Energy Markets complied data on renewables suggesting that NEG can’t deliver on meaningful emissions reduction targets, due to renewable energy projects under construction exceeding the required 2030 target margin.

Petra Stock from the Climate Council discussed with The Wire her concerns over the potential consequences of this proposed framework.
