The Victorian Government announced on Tuesday that a $3.1 billion water desalination plant had been approved. The decision will have lasting effects on the coastal community of Wonthaggi and the Bass Coast in general. But while residents of this part of the world contemplate their future along side the state of the art facility, debate within the scientific community rages over the best means to combat the country’s water shortages.
