Victims of regime crackdown speak out as F1 heads to Bahrain

Formula 1 teams are beginning to arrive in Bahrain ahead of the race due to be held there on the weekend. But as the country prepares to be in the international spotlight, Amnesty International has released a report that details how the country’s human rights crisis is continuing in the wake of the arab spring protests.

Scores of people involved in speaking out, protesting, and organizing strikes during last years protests remain in jail or await trails with the threat of long sentences. One woman who has done jail time and is facing another jail sentence is Jalila Al-Salman. She says that when she was released from detention on bail, she promised herself that she would speak out so that the world would know what was happening in Bahrain.Although she faces the threat of another trial in a few weeks time, Jalila was prepared to speak to The Wire about her arrest and imprisonment.
