The Victorian Lower House has passed legislation that could see the entire Geelong Council and its infamous Paparazzo Mayor, Darryn Lyons, sacked within the week.

The vote on the bill was pushed through by Labor, despite protests by the Liberal opposition that there wasn’t enough time to consider a report by a Commission of Inquiry into the council’s governance, administration and culture.

The Inquiry found the Council’s leadership is dysfunctional, and that both the Mayor and Councillors have a poor understanding of their legislative responsibilities.

Citing that a significant number of Councillors contravened their Code of Conduct, the Inquiry has recommended that the Greater Geelong City Council be overseen by an administrator until the next election in 2020.
