Acclaimed Aboriginal artist Trevor Nickolls has died at 63. Known as the ‘father of urban Aborginal art’, his work hangs in galleries all over Australia and the world although he worked quietly and modestly from his suburban Adelaide studio.

He leaves a legacy of art that combined European  style with indigenous traditional themes, and that made strong political statements about the role of an Aboriginal person in white society.
