Yesterday saw a big win for the gay marriage lobby in California when a Federal judge overturned a ban on same-sex marriage. Judge Vaughn Walker found the two year old ban, known as proposition 8 , was unconstitutional because it discriminated against same sex couples. Alex Greenwich is national convenor for Australia Marriage Equality – naturally he welcomes the US decision but says it’s only possible because of their constitution and it would not be possible here unless Australia passes a Bill of Rights.
