After fifteen months of campaigning Illinois Senator Barack Obama has claimed victory over Hilary Clinton in the race for the US presidential ticket, saying America is witnessing a “moment that will define a generation”. His task now will be to unite the democratic vote and engage those people who have supported Clinton in the race so far. One crucial group that has so far backed Hilary is the American Jewish community with many political commentators saying that if Obama wants to win the presidency, he will first need to win over this influential vote. Professor of American studies, Don de Bats says what he thinks Obama will need to do to engage the Jewish community in the states.
