Urgent call to address violence against people with disability
Women living with disability in Australia are 40 per cent more likely to experience domestic violence. 70 per cent of these women have experienced sexual violence, and one quarter of rape cases reported in Australia are against people with disability. The disability community have been demanding action from the Federal Government on this horrific issue since last year’s Senate Inquiry into violence, abuse and neglect against people with disability, but have had little response from our leaders. Today the Australian Cross Disability Alliance released their 2016 Election Platform, which includes an urgent call for a Royal Commission into violence towards women with disabilities in institutional and domestic settings.
