In the last financial year, the government spent 14% of the federal budget on tenders. More than 68,000 Australian federal government contracts were awarded at a total of more than $59 billion dollars. But many Australians don’t know who this money is going to. It’s not that the information isn’t open to the public – it’s that it’s hidden in complicated documents and difficult to find. Love Me Tender is a new website which is shining a light on government spending, by providing easy to access information about the tender process. This freely available online tool allows anyone to visualise and aggregate the data to get the bigger picture of how tax dollars are being spent.
