UN investigates Northern Territory Intervention

The United Nations will visit Indigenous communities over the next two weeks to review the Northern Territory Intervention. “Special Measures” such as alcohol restrictions and income management will be examined to determine whether they are a violation of human rights. Aboriginal groups have also requested that the negotiation process between the government and Indigenous communities be reviewed as they feel the current processes are exclusive and descriminatory in nature.
