UN body slams Australia’s record on discrimination

Australia uses racist policies in the Northern Territory, and has failed to uphold it’s obligations on the treatment of asylum seekers who come to Australia by boat. That’s part of the damning report from the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, or CERD. Regardless of which party forms Government, they’ll need to respond to the criticism by October 2012, but with all attention focused on the election outcome, will the international condemnation have any impact here in Australia?
