The giant fish factory Veronica is starting to make waves even though it hasn’t come near Australia yet. South Australia would be one of the first states affected if the trawler, as is warned, decimates pelagic fisheries and other sea life. SA premier Mike Rann wants the Federal government to commit more firmly to keeping the trawler away from Australia – at the moment they have agreed only to defer any licensing decsions till after the election. Michelle Grady from the Australian Whale and Dolphin Foundation says doors are closing all over the world on trawlers like the Veronica.
