Transition to green energy on ice as Labor prepares climate stopgap

In the coming days the Labor government is expected to make an announcement on the climate change policies it will be taking to the election. Julia Gillard has said that she’ll stand by Kevin Rudd’s decision to shelve emissions trading until 2012, and it seems unlikely that the labor party will adopt an interim carbon tax. But without a price or a tax on carbon, some scientists are suggesting that the stopgap measures about to be announced won’t be enough to begin the required transition toward greener energy sources.
