Lake Cowal in central New South Wales is in the centre of a long-running native title claim. The traditional land-owners have been in a court battle with Barrack Gold Mine for over five years. The issue has now become an environmental one with water tables dropping as low as 35 metres. Earlier in the week, a number of protests were conducted at the mine, and Neville Williams, one of the traditional land owners was there and explained the significance of the area.
