Changes to Newstart job search requirements have resulted in more people having their payments suspended. Of particular concern is the high figure for Indigenous Australians, with over 43 000 suspensions since the new scheme was introduced.

In July last year the Federal Government introduced stricter reporting – with payments being halted for missing job agency appointments or not attending ‘job activities’.
