Too many reports and not enough action
There is no shortage of good intentions when it comes to closing the gap between indigenous and non indigenous health – but year after year the shocking statistics continue. Leading epidemiologist and former Australian of the Year professor Fiona Stanley has spent a lifetime working in the area. She’ll deliver a passionate speech on the topic tonight at the annual Hawke oration in Adelaide . She says the penny really dropped for her when she was working on a coronial enquiry into suicide rates of young people at Fitzroy Crossing, and she read through all the enquiries and reports that had been done over the years into the issue of Aboriginal health.
