Despite being plagued by severe operational problems, Queensland’s remote Mornington Shire Council is confident it will survive the threat of sacking. Local Government Minister Desley Boyle gave the Gulf island’s councillors 60 days in late January to show cause why the Council should not be dissolved. But Mornington Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Susan Sewter says the problems existed long before the current Council came to office and that their efforts have been blocked by a lack of resources, staff vacancies and poor reporting by officers. The Wire Team spoke to Graeme Channells, CEO of the Mornington Shire Council.
