Thongs wash up on Queensland beach

Approximately 4,700 thongs from across the country and South East Asia have washed up on a remote beach in far north Queensland.
They were discovered by Tangaroa Blue Foundation, a non-profit environmentalist organisation, during its annual clean-up of Chili Beach.The 7km long beach, on the east coast of Cape York, north of the Lockhart River, is known for being a hotspot for marine debris.This year’s clean-up unearthed 5 and a half tonnes of marine debris, according to the foundation’s managing director, Heidi Taylor.
